Enjoying Texas- first stop: Corpus Christi and the Gulf of Mexico

We had a fabulous time in Texas! The first thing we did (after getting our luggage, which arrived 20 HOURS after we did!!!) was jump in the van and head to Corpus Christi. We played on the beach, saw the USS Lexington, went to an indoor market, visited the science museum (where there were replicas of the Nina, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria), went to the acquarium, and just enjoyed the sounds of Corpus Christi Bay and the Gulf of Mexico.

Spike: Dude, you really want to eat here???

Mike: You bet I do!

(it turned out this was a really good restaurant, although it was loud and the servers spent more time dancing than actually doing their jobs)

Mike: The Selena Memorial. Right on the waterfront there is a nice memorial to Selena, a famous Tejano singer who was murdered in 1996. I love the movie- it makes me cry! There were a lot of people who stopped to pay tribute, so I didn't get a picture of the bronze statue.

Mike: Here we are at the Holiday Inn, where we stayed the first night. Great location, crappy hotel
Spike: Ah, Mike, you aren't going to make me go on the beach are you? Can I just stay in the camera case (shudders as he remembers the seagull incident) Take me to a happy place!

Historic sights in San Antonio

Spike: Here we are at the... uhh... what is the name of this place?
Mike: Spike, you idiot! It's the Alamo!
Spike: Oh yeah, Remember the Alamo!

Spike: (gasps in horror) Manny, what have they done to you?
Mike: (shakes head) Spike, that's a Mastadon! Manny is a Wooly Mammoth.
Spike: Whew- I thought our friend had bit the big one!

Spike: Ah, the Buckhorn bar and museum! Nothing like a stiff one while surrounded by thousands of dead animals!
Mike: That's right! This place has thousands of animals on display
Spike: Taxidermy at its finest!

More sights in San Antonio

Mike: Here we are at Sea World! Yeah, I could take that shark. He doesn't scare me!
Spike: Easy to say when he can't get to you!
Spike: Dr. Phil, you gotta help me! I'm being abused. Most days I'm locked up in a camera case or a dark cupboard. Then, when I do get out, I'm usually dropped, misplaced, or swooped up by seagulls. I'm telling you, the stress is killing me! Not to mention all the name-calling from Mike.
Mike: Spike, you pathetic idiot! You're talking to a big blob of wax!
Spike: See, Dr. Phil? See what I live with? How's that working for me? It's NOT, I'm telling you! You've just gotta help me!
(Mike gives himself a dope-slap)

Spike: Four cokes and Seven beers ago...
(Mike gives himself another dope-slap)
Mike: Well, Spike, here we are at the San Antonio airport at 5:00 am, drinking Diet Pepsi. It's going to be a long day!
Spike: yeah, but I think I'm ready to get back to the Pacific Northwest. It has been a good trip, hasn't it?
Mike: Yes, it has... we are going home with dirty laundry, tired kids, but lots of very good memories! See you on our next adventure!
